beer-festivalThe Munich Oktoberfest is a must on any serious travellers to-do list. Here at Hotel Munich (hotel-erb.de münchen) we can provide you with the best and most up to date information on the festival, along with the history and culture that make up this great event. This event is first and foremost a festival of beer, and it has been an important part of Bavarian culture for a long time. Many people from all over the world come to Munich during the festival and stay in one of the many hotels while enjoying all that the Oktoberfest has to offer.

Oktoberfest is a 16 day festival, and if you are still going by the end of it then you are doing better than most. The Oktoberfest is held during late September and early October. Many events have sprung up all over the world that model and try to emulate the Munich festival, but the one here is the original, the biggest and the best. There are special Oktoberfestbiers that are the original beers that have been served at the festival since 1818. There are 6 big German breweries that are involved in the production of these special beers: Spaten, Augustiner, Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, Lowenbrau and Hofbrau. While they would have originally been dark lagers, the most popular beer now is generally a paler lager.

A good Hotel Munich (Hotel München) will begin to be filled up leading up to the start of the festival, and during the festival you will be lucky to find a room in some hotels. The Oktoberfest is recognised as the largest people’s fair in the world, or the Largest Volksfest in German. It is truly amazing when you consider the numbers, with over six million people visiting the largest site - the 42 hectare Theresienwiese, from all over the world. There are 14 main tents at Oktoberfest, and they are all non permanent structures that are erected especially for the festival. This festival has a rich history and began way back on October the 12th, 1810.

Beer was first glassed in mugs in 1892, and entry of the Oktoberfest staff and breweries took place for the first time in 1887. The festival has slowly but surely become more like it is today and since 1950 there has been a traditional festival opening. Oktoberfest grew a lot during the 1050’s and was a famous internationally known festival by 1960. The hotels in Munich play an important role during the festival, giving people a much needed place to lay their head when the activities are over. We are proud to be part of such a great German tradition and offer our guests a quiet place to rest their heads. If you do want to stay in a Munich hotel during the festival, please make sure that you book a room early or you may be disapointed. We look forward to seeing you at the next Munich beer festival.
